One of the major differences between SportChassis and every other body builder is that every truck built by SportChassis LLC is an OEM product. SportChassis LLC, formerly a subsidiary of Freightliner LLC. maintains its preferred stragetic relationship allowing it to be a completion plant for the Freightliner M2 Business Class chassis. No other entity maintains this status in the Freightliner system.

Conversion, or aftermarket companies purchase a completed vehicle from a manufacturer or dealer. They then set about redesigning and removing significant componentry and fabricating the pieces necessary to modify the vehicle. SportChassis uses a proprietary specification within the Freighliner system that begins with the end product in mind. Electrical systems, frame mounts, color and special coatings are all coordinated inside the Freighliner system specifically for each unit.

Original Equipment Manufacturers, OEMs, are the industry's brand name auto manufacturers, such as Mercedes, Freightliner, Daimler, etc. The OEM definition in the automobile industry constitutes a federally licensed entity required to warrant and/or guarantee their products, unlike "aftermarket" which is not legally bound to a government-dictated level of liability.

OEM also applies to a multitude of licensed component manufacturers, such as Bostrom, Pioneer, Dynamat, Strut, etc. While these meet the industry definition of OEM, they are frequently called OEM Suppliers within the industry to prevent confusion with the automobile brand names.

OEM also refers to brands of components that an automaker uses in their particular vehicles. For instance, Pioneer audio is used in all SportChassis vehciles. Other specialty use of specification rated components are available from OEM suppliers on an as needed basis.
